The Airspace Operations Laboratory (AOL) hosts Edgars Rinkēvičs, President of Latvia
(Oct 2, 2024)
On Sept. 18, 2024, the President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs visited the Airspace Operations Laboratory (AOL) during a tour of NASA Ames Research Center in California's Silicon Valley. The visit to the Airspace Operations Lab was part of a demonstration that also included a stop at NASA's FutureFlight Central. President Rinkēvičs, along with a delegation of Latvian business representatives, was able to learn about our innovative aeronautics research and advanced simulation technologies.

During the visit, AOL researchers provided an overview of their work in the areas of UAS Traffic Management (UTM) for enabling Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations and its extension to airspace management for wildfire operations in the Advanced Capabilities for Emergency Response Operations (ACERO) Project. This vital work enables the transitions from local commercial and public good operations to those in support of large-scale disaster response sharing airspace with crewed and uncrewed aircraft.

To learn more about this research, please visit the AOL website. https://hsi.arc.nasa.gov/groups/AOL/.
