Contrast measures for predicting text readability (2003)
This paper shows that while our text readability index can predict the
identifiability of individual letters, the complexity of the way people
combine letters into words prevents the index from making accurate
readability predictions in general. This of course does not mean that the measure is not valid for display designs, but that for best results it may be necessary to apply the index at the individual letter level.
